Digital trends for 2023

Stay informed about the latest digital trends shaping the world.

In 2023, businesses anticipate fostering increased inclusivity, flexibility, and virtual connectivity within their workplaces.

So, what technologies are gaining the most traction? What are the most important trends that business leaders should be prepared for?

In this article we explore the top digital trends for this year that will shape our digital world for the next 12 months.

Sustainable technology

One of the biggest challenges the world is facing right now is putting the brakes on our carbon emissions, to tackle the climate crisis.

In 2023, tech and all industries must enhance sustainability due to net-zero goals and eco-conscious consumers.

Consumers, more conscious of their choices and environmental impact, seek energy-efficient companies with sustainable technology.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

This year, artificial intelligence will become real in organisations.

AI is important because it can help organisations make better decisions by providing insights about customer behaviour, demographics, and what they want.

AI will free staff members from tedious activities and will enable any business to leverage its power to create more intelligent products and services.

Diversity and inclusion in the workplace

Organisations are recognising the importance of strengthening diversity and inclusion across the business.

Evidence shows that diversity and inclusion in the workforce are key to improving productivity and innovative thinking.

A diverse, inclusive workforce attuned to community needs responds adeptly to change, ensuring optimal service.

An inclusive workplace recruits diverse global talent, enhancing representation from various backgrounds.

Offering flexible work locations enhances belonging and inclusion, considering factors such as cost of living and cultural preferences

Flexibility

Whether you are one of the following:

      • Flexi: Work when you choose, subject to completing your contracted hours.

        • Compressed hours: Reallocating your working hours, typically through a shorter workweek.

        • Staggered hours: Starting or finishing work at a different time than your co-workers to work around your routine.

        • Location: Diversifying where you work, such as working from home, from an office, or a hybrid approach, which is a combination of the above.

        • Job sharing: Sharing one role between two individuals to divide the workload and hours — a form of part-time working.

        • Part-time: Working fewer hours in a week.

          • Annualised hours: Working a fixed number of hours annually but spreading them out differently each day according to demand. Normally, employees will be paid as if they worked the same hours all the time.

          • Shift-swapping: Employees interchange working shifts with each other as needed.

Employees are looking for greater flexibility and are placing a higher priority on their wellbeing.

Offering flexibility in the workplace not only creates positive work experiences, but it also increases employee engagement and performance, which leads to improved profits for businesses.

Organisations are now focusing on providing employees with better experience, making sure they have the right tools and resources to stay productive, and creating a more flexible and agile workplace.

However, for flexibility to be successful, it is all about building a culture of trust where people feel that they belong, where they feel appreciated and heard; no matter where they’re working from – either on-site or remote.
